Support Our Emergency Department Expansion Campaign

Donate Now

For more than 85 years, Mount Sinai South Nassau has set the gold standard for emergency care on Long Island. To continue delivering the quality of care you’ve come to expect, we need to expand our Emergency Department — and we need your help to do it.

The current Emergency Department was designed to handle 35,000 visits. In 2013, it saw 65,000 visits — almost twice the original number. That figure is expected to grow to 80,000 annual visits, and the Emergency Department must grow with it to meet this increased demand.

The total cost of the expansion is $60 million, and our goal is to raise $10 million through donations.

Making A Difference

Have you ever had a moment when everything changed? One second, life seemed on track; the next, it was completely uncertain? For George Trimes, that moment came on September 10, 2018. The retired chef and culinary instructor was at the gym with his wife and in the midst of his usual workout routine. Suddenly, he felt an intense pain rip through the center of his chest. He became dizzy and started sweating profusely. Soon after, his world went dark.

George had suffered a massive heart attack, a kind known as a “widow maker” due to its high death rate. It’s caused by a 100% blockage in the left anterior descending (LAD) artery. If blood flow isn’t restored quickly, severe damage can occur. Response time is therefore critical.

“Getting sick was a bolt out of the blue,” said George. “I want to thank the doctors at Mount Sinai South Nassau for giving me my life back.” Today, after cardiac rehabilitation at Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Therapy Center, he’s back on his feet. He’s also grateful that the care he needed was available from a nationally recognized team, one right in his own backyard.

But our hospital is only as great as our faithful supporters. Insurance covers just a portion of our annual budget. The remainder must come from generous individuals in our community; from people like you.

When you donate, you’ll be investing in projects like our Emergency Department expansion, which will double our current space so we can provide even more life-saving services to patients like George. You’ll also be funding programs that offer access to the latest technologies, clinical trials and promising new treatments.
Most of all, though, you’ll be ensuring we’re here for you and your family when you need us, whether it’s a cardiac event, cancer diagnosis, an emergency situation, or simply routine care.

Now, knowing the impact you can have – we hope you will join countless others who have been impacted by Mount Sinai South Nassau and make a generous gift in support of your hospital. Thank you.

“My father was a patient in the Mount Sinai South Nassau and the Critical Care Unit. He received excellent care delivered by extraordinary medical and nursing professionals. This was an extremely difficult time for our family, and the staff went above and beyond to help us. The nurses on the Critical Care Unit are all wonderful. No task or request was too difficult and was handled with expertise and dignity. We are very grateful to everyone for their professionalism, support and kindness during this time.”

I want to share that I and many of my other family members have been patients, caretakers and visitors in many other hospitals, and never have we experienced patient care such as that displayed by your staff. From check in to the surgeon and everyone in between, we were treated with the utmost professionalism, respect, compassion, dignity, smiles and eagerness to accommodate and please as much as possible.”

“I wanted to let you know how kind the whole staff of Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital was! Also, the next day when I needed to obtain my records, the staff was wonderfully helpful. I live closer to another hospital, but Mount Sinai South Nassau will always be my first choice!”
